Benefits for users
This section provides a cross-reference of the benefit of specific accessibility features for particular user groups. Organisations can use the checklist to prioritise and validate that the most features are to be provided. Each guideline on the checklist provides a link to a more detailed discussion with suggestions for how its implementation may be tested.
Items on the checklist are grouped by user interaction with the smart card service and system in the order that a user is likely to interact with the service. It is useful to assess how a user interacts with all the card services to ensure that all aspects have been considered. For example, the user needs to apply for a card, understand how to use it, use the card operationally and should know what to do if it is lost or stolen.
This structure is used to group the guidelines by the following topics:
- literature and application forms
- training in use of the system
- terminal environment
- physical user interface
- labels and instructions
- cards
- authentication
- displays
- operation
- keypads
- touchscreens
- retrieving output
- lost and stolen cards
- alternative service
