Our commitment and approach to maintaining an accessible website

Accessibility Statement

The Centre for Excellence in Universal Design (CEUD) at the National Disability Authority (NDA) is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with European Union (Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of Public Sector Bodies) Regulations 2020.

This accessibility statement applies to content published on https://www.universaldesign.ie.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 level AA, due to the non-accessible content listed below.

Non-Accessible Content

Should you wish to contact us regarding accessibility please see the feedback and contact information section below. We will do our best to ensure that any content you request is made available and accessible in a timely manner.

Some content on CEUD’s website does not fully comply with the European Union (Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of Public Sector Bodies) Regulations 2020. For example:

  • Some documents in PDF lack correct tag structure
    • Our staff are reviewing and improving the accessibility of PDFs and are working to address identified issues on an ongoing basis
  • The Centre for Excellence in Universal website uses YouTube to host videos.  YouTube videos are embedded using iframes.  Some of component of these iframes have the following known accessibility issues: components do not have sufficient colour contrast, the related videos inner slider is missing an accessible name, some content can disappear on hover is disappearing, some hidden content is readable with a screen reader and on logo hover the content is not dismissible. Since these are third-party elements originating from YouTube, NDA currently has no ability to rectify these issues with the iframes code used to embed videos.
    • Our staff continue to seek a solution of these issues.

Preparation of this Accessibility Statement

This statement was prepared on 13 November 2023 following a review of a sample number of pages against all relevant WCAG 2.1 AA Success Criteria and relevant EN 301 549 clauses. This assessment was performed using a range to tools including:

  • Chrome browser
  • NVDA screen reader
  • Automated testing using axe-core rules
  • Manual testing and Keyboard-only navigation testing
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro
