Walkability Auditing Tool
We advised the National Transport Authority on the development of a Universal Design Walkability Audit Tool for Roads and Streets.
In 2019, we worked in partnership with Age Friendly Ireland to organise a pilot walkability audit in Kilrush, Co. Clare using a draft version of the Universal Design Walkability Audit Tool being developed by the National Transport Authority, to inform feedback on the draft version.
Our advice to the National Transport Authority was also informed by the How Walkable is Your Town? report by Age Friendly Ireland and the Centre for Excellence in Universal Design on the results of Walkability Audits in 2014.
Walkability Audit Reports
We prepared a summary report of 48 Age Friendly Ireland Walkability Audits conducted between 2013 and 2024. The Walkability Audit Summary Report covers the following;
- how walkability audits were carried out and reported upon,
- aggregated findings across audits on towns and outdoor spaces, and
- aggregated findings across audits in and around public buildings.
This summary report will help inform the development of future and complementary tools to assess and improve access to buildings and the public realm for all people.
